U.S. Borrows $14 Billion a Day!
Does anyone care about fiscal responsibility? The U.S. budget deficit soared to its highest monthly level in more than five years, driven by a surge in Medicare costs, as interest on the federal debt continued to weigh on the nation’s fiscal picture, the Treasury Department reported Wednesday.
In addition to the big single-month jump, the deficit has hit $1.8 trillion across the first 10 months of the government’s fiscal year, surpassing the same period in 2025.
What got us here:
Tax cuts that haven't yielded more economic activity (the trickle-down effect), and government spending that hasn’t slowed down and is picking up with the War on Iran.
